SportsBaby Specifications and Safety

Our patent-pending SportsBaby™ infant carrier is made of our unique and patent-pending StruXure™ material combination of two layers of neoprene quilted with antimicrobial foam, making it the most comfortable front-position carrier out there on the market.   Baby can be positioned to face in or face out, as she gets older.

The carrier resists stain and mildew, dries quickly when wet, and is easy to clean.   The special material won’t absorb water, making it perfect for surf and turf fun while you and Baby get fit and active together!

The SportsBaby infant carrier has been tested by independent companies and certified for safety by the JPMA when used properly. Here are some important things to know when purchasing your SportsBaby carrier:

Weight Limits:

  • 11 lbs – 35 lbs. and at least 21 inches long.
  • The carrier has climbing grade buckles and was tested to withstand 700 lbs of weight

Carrier Position:

  • The SportsBaby carrier rides higher than some other carriers. Your chin should touch the top of baby’s head. This helps with weight distribution and is more comfortable for the wearer.
  • Only wear carrier in front, never on your back.
  • Never leave baby in carrier unless being worn by caregiver.
  • Use the top buckles in the front when the baby is small and facing inward. You can also adjust the side straps to pull baby in close to you.
  • Always face baby toward you until baby can support his/her head without assistance.
  • In facing-in position, always provide enough room between baby's face and your chest to allow for an unobstructed source of air for baby.
  • If baby falls asleep facing out, remove from carrier or change baby to facing-in position and turn head to side to allow for unobstructed flow of air.
  • The back piece and criss-cross should be just below your shoulder blades.
  • The SportsBaby is ergonomically designed to support your back and shoulders, with flexible fabric to let baby move and stretch.
  •
  • When reaching down, always bend at the knees, never at the waist, making sure baby stays securely in carrier.

How to Wear Your Sports Carrier:

  • Read all instructions before assembling and using soft carrier.
  • Slip shoulder straps over head.
  • Back piece should rest flat between shoulder blades.
  • Fasten both waist buckles snugly.

Placing Baby in Sports Carrier:

  • On one side of carrier, detach the Velcro on the lower tab, and detach upper tab swivel hook on shoulder strap on same side.
  • Properly place child in carrier, including leg and arm placement.
  • If placing child in carrier facing out (after baby has developed good head support), place arms above armholes.
  • If placing child in carrier facing in, place arms through armholes.
  • Attach Velcro on other lower tab, fasten buckle over Velcro.
  • Fasten remaining upper tab swivel hood to D-Ring on shoulder strap.
  • Check to assure all buckles, snaps, straps, and adjustments are snug and secure before each use, including leg straps. Pull straps to assure snug fit.

Water Safety:

  • The SportsBaby is NOT A FLOTATION DEVICE or LIFE PRESERVER
  • The SportsBaby is designed for wading, enjoying activities in and near water, and assisting your baby to learn to swim in the pool.
  • Baby can stay close to you as she gets used to the water, and then you can take her out of the carrier and simulate swimming motions.
  • The SportsBaby should not be used in water deeper than your waist in a pool, or deeper than your ankles in the ocean or lake or other large natural body of water.
  • A pool’s ideal water temperature should be between 84 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Do not keep baby immersed in water for more than 30 minutes.
  • ALWAYS use in the presence of a lifeguard or certified infant swimming instructor.
  • Carrier wearers should be age 18 and older.
  • Consult your pediatrician for other infant water safety guidelines, as opinions vary by doctor.

Land Safety:

  • The SportsBaby is the ideal carrier for active moms and dads who love fitness and living life on the go.
  • When tightened properly, the SportsBaby is stable and keeps baby securely in front of you as you move about.
  • A special flatlock seam design, adjustable nylon webbing straps, and climbing-gear buckles make the SportsBaby ideal for the active lifestyle.
  • Use the SportsBaby to go out and get fit with your baby! Power walk, go to the park, take baby on errands, go camping, spend family time at the beach – there are many activities you can do with the SportsBaby that fosters a connection between you and baby, and establishes a pattern of exercising with your child.
  • Do not use carrier when jogging/running, biking, cooking, or engaging in activities that could be harmful to baby.
  • See “carrier position” to position your carrier for maximum comfort for you and baby.

Maintenance and Cleaning:

  • Low maintenance, cleans easily, dries quickly outdoors. Easy to spot clean using a non-chemical cleaner or soap and water.
  • Remove back piece before machine washing.
  • Machine wash cold, or hand wash, do not use bleach or fabric softener.
  • Hang dry, do not use dryer, do not use iron.
